Woodland Community Garden

The development of Woodland’s Methodist Community Garden (Harrogate), was inspired and overseen by Catherine Baxter. I am sure she’d be the first to say, it was a team effort, but with fundraising, and vision, the church has created a beautiful community garden. More exciting still, is it is actively used in the Ministry and Mission of the church, with lots of exciting spin-off projects making use of the space. One of these involves children from the local school, growing food, and making and serving breakfast to the older members of the church congregation, but they’ll also had fayres, and fetes and open days, as well as garden work days.

Catherine has showed that fundraising, and mission can be done at the same time. The pizza oven was created by people, learning to bricklay, funds were raised through a garden calendar, drawn from photos submitted by the community. The garden also inspired Acomb Methodist, who visited in 2018, with the development of their own garden, and Catherine talked us through the project on our visit.
